The Houston Rockets have a depth problem

The Houston Rockets have a lot of talent on their roster, but it can be difficult to determine who will play in Ime Udoka’s rotation on any given night.

No. 3 overall pick Reed Sheppard would likely see starting minutes on most NBA teams, but the Rockets’ youth and talent pushed him to the fringes of Houston’s rotation.

The same problem might also exist with last year’s No. 4 pick, Amen Thompson, but he has found ways to get on the field.

“Amen Thompson has cleared 30 minutes in each of his last two outings, even though the Houston Rockets are not dealing with any serious injuries. Whoopie,” Bleacher Report contributor Dan Favale writes. “It’s true, the general feeling of the initial overreaction remains. Rookie Reed Sheppard still doesn’t have much carry, and Cam Whitmore may be phased out of the rotation. We have bigger fish to fry, however. “

The Rockets have been fortunate not to deal with very many injuries up to this point in the season. However, as the wear and tear of the regular season begins to take shape, the Rockets will need that depth – and eventually those good “problems” the team is facing will soon disappear.

The Rockets are back in action tomorrow night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The warning is set for 7 p.m. CT.
