No matter how carefully you plan your Thanksgiving Day, it’s entirely possible that something can go wrong. I made mashed potatoes and realized I used all the butter for my pie crust. And who hasn’t forgotten to pick up a green vegetable to go with all the starchy sides?

Needing to go to the grocery store on Turkey Day happens to everyone, but there’s nothing more frustrating than arriving at the supermarket during a crisis and learning it’s closed. Many large grocery stores like Costco, Walmart, and Aldi will not be open on Thanksgiving, so it’s important to check before leaving your home.

Whole foods

The majority of Whole Foods stores will be open on Thanksgiving from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The few exceptions to this rule are all stores in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Bryant Park in New York. (If you live in the Northeast, you may be able to get one of the chain’s stores. limited edition pies while you’re there.) HEB

This Texas-based grocery chain will be open from 6 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving, in case you need some last-minute chips and queso for an easy appetizer. Times for different HEB formats like Central Market or Mi Tienda may vary slightly, but times for each are listed here.

Wegman

Most Wegmans stores will operate from their regular operating time until 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This is one of the latest time windows we’ve found for a supermarket, so it’s ideal for anyone preparing an evening meal. There are, however, a few exceptions: Northborough, Massachusetts; Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania; Burlington, VT; Westwood, New Jersey; and locations in Medford, NJ, will be closed. Dollar General

Although Dollar General did not provide detailed information on changes to store hours, the chain confirmed that most locations plan to be open on Thanksgiving. The company store locator does not outline future holiday hours for each store, but does tell you what time a location closes that day. So if you urgently need an ingredient, you can check the website that day to see if your store is open.

Albertson

Albertsons Companies verified that the majority of its banner stores, including Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, ACME, Vons and Tom Thumb, will be open on Thanksgiving, but noted that most of them will have adjusted hours . This is important given that the parent company is one of the largest supermarket chains in the country – many home cooks will have an accessible grocery source to turn to. Albertsons Companies recommends customers confirm when their location is open by contacting them directly; you can find a telephone number and detailed information at Safeway, Albertson, Bijou-Osco, ACME, Let’sAnd Tom Thumb through their online store locators.

Kroger

Many Kroger stores will be open with reduced hours on Turkey Day. However, the brand noted that hours vary by region, so there’s no guarantee your favorite store will work. You can check whether or not a location is currently open on the supermarket’s store locator. here.

Stop and Shop

Home cooks in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey are in luck because Stop & Shop grocery stores will be open until 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. However, all locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will be closed, as required by state law.
