Man with previous gun convictions in New Jersey sent to prison for having another loaded gun

A 27-year-old man with previous New Jersey gun possession convictions was sentenced to federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in New Hampshire, authorities announced Tuesday.

Monytung Maker, also known as “MoSavage,” previously pleaded guilty in 2019 to a weapons offense in Bergen County and was sentenced to probation and a fine.

Maker was sentenced Tuesday on the latest charge to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, authorities said.

Maker’s conviction comes after authorities found a loaded 9mm pistol in his Manchester, New Hampshire apartment in August 2023. He also tried to flee from officers at the time of his arrest, authorities said.

Maker sold cocaine to a confidential informant several times before his arrest, authorities said. Manchester police executed a search warrant at Maker’s apartment and found a backpack in the bedroom containing the 9mm pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.

Maker was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition following a 2019 felony conviction for illegal possession of a handgun without a license in New Jersey state court .

Maker’s cocaine distribution charge is pending in New Hamshire state court.

According to published reports, Maker was one of three men arrested in a pickup truck in Cliffside Park on Dec. 23, 2018, when police found guns, including an AK-47 loaded with 20 hollow-point bullets in a bag in the bed of the truck.

Maker pleaded guilty in Bergen County on June 17, 2019, to illegal possession of a weapon and was sentenced to one year of probation, according to public records.

U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young highlighted Maker’s criminal history and his alleged involvement in narcotics distribution with another man convicted of several firearms offenses.

“These two defendants were distributing narcotics while illegally possessing guns and ammunition, which is always a perilous combination,” Young said in a statement.

Along with Maker, Robert Reidy, 32, of Nashua, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for several firearms offenses, including possession of unregistered ghost guns and an AR-style rifle with a silencer.

Reidy, accused of distributing methamphetamine, was apprehended after a three-hour standoff with Nashua police, who later discovered firearms hidden in his attic. His drug charges are still pending in New Hampshire state court.
