Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is suing to stop Elon Musk’s $1 million donation to voters in Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a lawsuit Monday to stop Elon Musk’s $1 million daily donation to voters in conflict states including Pennsylvania, calling it an illegal lottery that circumvents state requirements and violates consumer protection laws.

The complaint, filed in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, is the first legal action challenging the controversial contest launched earlier this month by Musk’s America PAC. This comes a week after the US Department of Justice also warned the tech billionaire that the gift violated federal laws prohibiting voter inducements.

But Musk, so far, has ignored that warning and stuck to his promise to hand out rewards to registered voters in seven battleground states every day until Election Day. His PAC has distributed more than $9 million, nearly half of it to Pennsylvania voters.

The new trial gives Krasner, a progressive prosecutor and frequent target of Republican ire, the opportunity to confront Musk, who has become a top surrogate for Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the state, in court in the final days of what is an extremely close trial. and a contentious presidential race.

“The America PAC and Musk must be stopped immediately before the upcoming presidential election on November 5,” Krasner’s lawsuit reads. “That’s because the America PAC and Musk engineered their illegal lottery scheme to influence voters in this election.”

Representatives for Musk’s U.S. PAC, which has committed nearly $75 million to re-elect Trump, could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
