The Most Expensive Grocery Chains for Thanksgiving 2024

Your turkey, the key part of any Thanksgiving feast, will likely be the most expensive item on the list. Pumpkin pie follows closely as the second largest expense. Sauce and vegetable sides like green beans and corn are among the most affordable items.

It costs about $50 to buy the ingredients needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for eight people on average, according to the report.

According to the list, Whole Foods is the most expensive option with a total cost of $76.92 (before tax), with a turkey priced at $29.88 for non-members. Whole Foods, known for its focus on organic and healthy foods, operates more than 500 locations nationwide in 45 states.

Florida-based Publix was the second most expensive, with a total cost of $73.58, just over $3 less than Whole Foods.

Affordable Alternatives for Thanksgiving 2024

Aldi, Walmart, and Target offer Thanksgiving meal ingredients for under $40 and are the most economical options for your feast. These three national chains offer a more economical alternative, with total costs less than half of what shoppers would spend at Whole Foods.
