Kevin Wilkin finds ‘areas for improvement’ despite AFC Telford United win

AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin felt his side could have killed off the competition earlier as they eventually won 4-1 against Bishop’s Stortford at Bucks Head.

In-form frontman Ricardo Dinanga scored a late brace to seal victory and score his fourth goal in two games in all competitions.

But Wilkin believes there were opportunities to put the contest out of reach earlier in the game.

He said: “Really happy to get the result we got. I felt we could have done it a little more comfortably than we did.”

“Moments there where we did very well, times there where we didn’t do very well and we need to improve on those not so good moments if we want to stay consistent and beat teams in and around the first zone of the league what we can do.

“That guys unconsciously shut down or let go a little bit sometimes. Any team can come here and play and the opposing teams will come here and have a period against you.

“We have to be better when they have these periods and not let moments and goals develop. We have to start keeping clean sheets to be successful.”

The Bucks took an early lead through Ellis Brown, but Isa Rotimi equalized for Bishop’s Stortford after Telford failed to take a number of chances.

Matty Stenson responded within four minutes to restore Telford’s lead, but Stortford held the score until Dinanga’s late double, prompting Wilkin to call on his players to be more clinical with the number of chances they had. they created.

“But you look at us from an offensive point of view and certainly from the start we had,” he continued.

“A fantastic finish from Ellis and we probably could have almost put the game to bed in the first 10-15 minutes. That’s not unkind towards Bishop’s Stortford, but when those big moments come you have to hold them at bay. gap.

“Credit to Stortford, they go on, find a moment themselves and equalize. Luckily we were able to get it back and we just felt like we had to take the game away from Stortford.

“It didn’t come soon enough for me, if I’m honest. Great goals aside from that, times where we need to do better and be more diligent.”
