The Israeli army withdrew from Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, completing a raid on the “terrorist headquarters established by Hamas” in Jabaliya, military spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, in a message published on social networks.

Shoshani said weapons, cash and intelligence documents were seized in and around the hospital. The army surrounded the hospital last week and stormed in over the weekend. Gaza’s health ministry denied any militant presence at the hospital. The ministry accused the Israelis of detaining all male medical staff at the hospital and confining women to hospital rooms without food or water. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, described the situation in northern Gaza as “catastrophic.”

Israeli planes struck the ancient Lebanese city of Tire on Monday after the army called for the evacuation of swathes of the coastal region, Lebanese and Israeli media reported. Earlier, a barrage of around 30 rockets was fired from Lebanon towards Israel.

Tire was considered safe until recently despite intensifying air attacks between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanon-based Hezbollah. But Israeli airstrikes this week have torn facades off buildings, left rubble piled in the streets and raised fears that the city is unsafe. As a result, tens of thousands of residents fled.
