Asheville police are searching for a suspect in the shooting death of a woman on S. French Broad Ave.

ASHEVILLE – City police were searching Nov. 9 for a man believed to be responsible for the shooting death of a woman near Aston Park on South French Broad Avenue.

Asheville police officers around 11 a.m. Nov. 9 responded to a welfare check at a home in the 100 block of South French Broa, where they found Makayla Lashea Harrison, 26, dead from a apparent gunshot wound, according to a press release.

Detectives identified the suspect in the shooting as 30-year-old Darren Lamon Clayton. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Clayton remained at large as of Saturday evening, according to the release.

This is the 11th homicide reported so far this year within Asheville city limits.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
