Florida State offensive line commits share raw reactions to Alex Atkins news

Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class has suffered numerous blows this fall, with five prospects decommitting from the program since the beginning of September. The Seminoles are also struggling on the ground, leading head coach Mike Norvell to move from offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, to defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans .

Following the firings, Norvell said he contacted all of FSU’s current pledges and top targets. Naturally, some of these recruits wanted to make their voices heard publicly.

The loudest group in the class by far was the offensive line, which includes five-star Solomon Thomas, four-star Peyton Joseph, four-star Mario Nash Jr. and three-star Daniel Pierre Louis. Check out their reactions below.

Thomas is the highest-rated commit in Florida State’s class and has been committed to the program since December of last year. He seemed perturbed by the news as he had a strong relationship with Atkins but will remain with the Seminoles for the time being.

“NGL, you are going to have missed the firing of my coach,” Thomas wrote. “That being said, it’s a business decision at the end of the day, if you’re not going to talk business, I don’t want to talk about it.”

The Florida native was heavily pursued by LSU and Florida despite his long-shot decision and he took official visits to both programs over the summer. Norvell has some work to do to keep him locked in during the early signing period.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound offensive lineman is considered the No. 23 overall prospect, No. 2 IOL and No. 4 recruit in Florida in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Nash Jr. recently committed to Florida State in October after opting out of his commitment to Mississippi State. Atkins played a big role in his recruitment, but the blue-chip prospect announced he’s still a member of #Tribe25. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bulldogs try one last time to keep Nash Jr. in his home state.

“It is truly heartbreaking to learn that (Coach Atkins) has been fired by (FSU Football),” wrote Nash Jr. “Coach Atkins is family to me and I truly believe in him as a “man and coach I want the best for him and his family. I remain committed at this time.”

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman is considered the No. 217 overall prospect, No. 13 IOL and No. 7 recruit from Mississippi in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Joseph committed to Florida State in Memphis on July 4. He expressed his commitment to the Seminoles while calling out other recruits who have left the program or are considering leaving the program. Joseph referenced his connection to Atkins in a show of respect for the coach on social media.

It remains to be seen if Joseph signs with FSU after his future coaching job is fired. It will likely depend on who replaces the Seminoles tab.

“It was a different kind of bond,” Joseph wrote. “The best is yet to come, I still have love for this man. One of the realest in the game.”

The 6-foot-3, 309-pound offensive lineman is considered the No. 234 overall prospect, No. 13 IOL and No. 34 recruit in Georgia in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Pierre Louis is one of the newest members of Florida State’s Class of 2025 after committing to the program at North Carolina State and Florida in mid-October. He wished Atkins and his family the best in a message posted Monday evening.

“He treated me as if I were his family,” wrote Pierre Louis. “I wish nothing but luck and success to (Coach Atkins) and his family!”

The Gators are expected to host Pierre Louis for an official visit this weekend. They are probably the biggest contenders to unseat the three-star prospect from Florida State.

The 6-foot-4.5, 290-pound offensive lineman is considered the No. 968 overall prospect, No. 64 IOL and No. 125 recruit in Florida in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
