Coach fired by Jannik Sinner over doping controversy teams up with Wimbledon finalist | Tennis | Sport

One of Jannik Sinner’s former coaches has found a new job months after being fired by the world number 1.

The two-time Major winner parted ways with two team members following his doping hearing over the summer.

One of them – Umberto Ferrara – has now joined forces with another Italian, Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini.

A former world number 6, Berrettini has been plagued by injuries in recent years. The ten-time title winner recently made some changes in his own camp, ending his partnership with coach Francisco Roig.

He has now brought in former Sinner fitness coach Ferrera ahead of the 2025 season to help him continue to build his strength and fitness.

Ferrera was fired by Sinner in August after news of his doping saga came to light. The world number one tested positive twice for the banned substance clostebol in March.

He received two provisional suspensions but, each time, he quickly and successfully argued that the positive tests were the result of contamination. This meant he was allowed to continue playing until his hearing before an independent tribunal.

Sinner ended his working relationship with Ferrera and Naldi shortly after his first hearing. Since then, he has hired two Novak Djokovicthe team’s former coaches, Ulises Badio and Marco Panichi.

Ferrera will now be busy with Berrettini, who hopes to be fully fit in the 2025 season.

The world number 35 enjoyed a successful comeback from injury this year, winning three titles, but he has also suffered from illness and physical setbacks.
