The city of Khulna is grappling with severe power cuts.

The city experienced more than 10 power outages between midnight and 6 p.m. today (October 30), each lasting at least half an hour.

Asadul Islam, a resident of the Nirala area, expressed frustration over the frequent power cuts, saying: “We had at least 10 power outages today, with the electricity constantly on and off. We have not witnessed such intense load shedding in winter. over the last 10 years. »

The situation is just as dire in the Moylapota district.

Mizanur, owner of a private clinic, reported that load shedding has continued for three days, but the current situation is particularly serious.

He stressed that the persistence of power cuts could jeopardize his activity.

West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), responsible for electricity distribution in Khulna city, has confirmed scheduled load shedding in various areas throughout the day.

According to the WZPDCL control room, one-third of the city was subjected to power outages around 2 p.m.

As of midday on Wednesday, total electricity demand in the region was 653 megawatts, while supply was limited to 534 megawatts, resulting in a load shedding of 119 megawatts.

WZPDCL Managing Director Prof Moha Shamsul Alam attributed the power cuts to insufficient supply of electricity from the national grid compared to demand.
