When should campaign signs be removed after an election? | Nevada | News

The elections are over, and that means the end of political advertisements and the numerous campaign signs that clutter the sides of the roads. Signs must be removed after an election – but the exact timing depends on where the sign is displayed.

In Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, all political signs must be removed within 15 days of the election to which they relate, according to the city requirements.

Who is responsible for their deletion? It would be the candidate and his campaign responsible for handing out the signs. If a sign is not removed in Las Vegas within 15 days, the city will send written notice to the applicant; and after five days, the city could remove and dispose of the sign. The City of Las Vegas will certify the referral and may bill the applicant for the referral costs incurred by the City. These payments must be made within 30 days after receipt of the statement of charges.

In Henderson, the city does not regulate how long a campaign sign can be displayed, but it does ask campaign sign owners to refrain from leaving signs posted after the general election ends, according to a spokesperson of the city. Temporary signs on the public right-of-way are removed by the city after approximately 30 days.

For areas of unincorporated Clark County, such as Enterprise and Spring Valley, all signs placed on private property require a permit, which has a two-year deadline. Signs must be removed immediately after the expiration of the sign permit, according to Clark County Website.

Under state law, political signs must be removed from private property within 660 feet of state highways no later than 30 days after an election. National roads include Lake Mead Boulevard and Eastern Avenue.

There are different rules for primary elections. Signs supporting a candidate who loses a primary election or who wins a nonpartisan race in a primary election with more than 50 percent of the vote must be removed within 15 days of the primary election in Las Vegas.
