The 26-year-old singer addressed the crowd between songs on Monday during his For Friends and Family Tour during his stop at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

During his recent concerts, Mendes carried out a next title “The Mountain” with lyrics that seem to weigh in on conversations about his sexuality.

“Some days I changed my mind / You can say what you have to say,” he said in a clip shared with TikTok. “You can say I’m too young / You can say I’m too old / You can say I like girls or boys / Whatever fits your mold.”

Mendes then expanded on the conversation during the show.

“Ever since I was really young, there’s been this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it for so long,” he told the crowd, via a clip shared by a fan on TikTok. “I think it’s a bit silly, because I think sexuality is such a complex thing and so hard to put into boxes.”

“It always seemed like such an intrusion into something very personal to me, something that I was discovering in myself, something that I had not yet discovered and have not yet discovered,” the musician continued, adding that he “speaks freely now.” » so that he could be “closer to everyone”.

“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is, man, I’m figuring it out like everyone else. I don’t really know sometimes, and I know other times. And that’s really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that.

“I try to be really brave and allow myself to be a human and feel things. And that’s all I really want to say about it for now,” Mendes noted.

Mendes also opened up about his love life, telling the audience that these days he wants to take the “pressure” off by finding “The One.”

“When you’re single, there’s this pressure of looking for ‘The One,’ who is ‘The One?’ on TikTok.

“For me, I just tried to relieve anyone of that pressure and allow myself to feel the love that happens in that moment, wherever and however it happens. Man, we all need a little hug, a little hug,” Mendes added, before launching into his next song “In Between.”
