Bread recalls: pieces of metal discovered in popular brands

Wonder Bread, Country Harvest, D’Italiano, No Name and Great Value are among the brands to be recalled

Several popular brands of bread and rolls have been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) after pieces of metal were found in the products.

Among the brands included in the recall are Wonder Bread, Country Harvest, D’Italiano, No Name and Great Value.

A full list of the 37 recalled bread products and their variations are available on the CFIA website.

Anyone with affected products should not eat the bread. Merchants should remove the recalled breads from shelves.

The recall was announced on November 1 for bread products sold in Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wonderbrands Inc. issued the recall. The company has not publicly commented on the incident.

The CFIA linked the recall to a related review last month, which saw the recall of Hy·Grade Salt from the Sifto brand due to the presence of metal parts inside the product.

On October 28, discount brand Giant Tiger released a voluntary recall of several Wonderbrands breads on a “potential foreign material in the products”.

Costco issued a similar voluntary recall Wonderbrands products the next day for certain breads purchased in Ontario between October 24 and 25.

“This recall follows a recall initiated by Compass Minerals, the supplier of salt raw materials used in baked goods,” Costco wrote in the recall notice.

Affected products must be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase.
