Weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued for Northern Ireland from 18:00 GMT Tuesday until 10:00 Wednesday.

Wintry showers are expected to develop Tuesday evening and continue overnight into Wednesday morning.

Away from the north coast, lying snow is possible, with 1-2 cm in places and up to 5 cm on higher ground.

However, it is important to note that the nature of the showers means that most places will avoid snow altogether.

Ice is also likely to form easily on untreated surfaces, leading to hazardous conditions.

The warning follows snowfall, mainly on hills and mountains, in Northern Ireland on Monday evening.

Between 5 and 10 cm of snow are expected to fall on the Sperrin and Morne mountains, for example.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has issued a similar warning regarding low temperatures and ice across the Republic of Ireland.

It runs from 8:00 p.m. GMT on Tuesday to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The organization warns of dangerous conditions on roads and trails, particularly in untreated areas, with the risk of disruption to travel.
