Chicago and Illinois voters will decide US presidential race, more

Voters across the state of Illinois voted to elect Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. The race remains too close to call.

Former president Donald Trump however, gets closer to victory. The Associated Press projects that the 78-year-old is just three votes behind 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House and is ahead in key races yet to be called, including two in neighboring Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

The Associated Press called the state of Illinois for Harris, giving the vice president 19 Electoral College votes to 270.

Locally, in the race to Cook County State’s AttorneyDemocrat Eileen O’Neill Burke defeated Republican Bob Fioretti and Libertarian Andrew Charles Kopinksi for the role of top county prosecutor, succeeding Kim Foxx.

For the first time, voters elected several members to the Chicago Board of Education For two-year terms. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will appoint the remaining 11 members.
