Barbara Rush, Warren Cowan’s 1959 wedding album is a who’s who of Hollywood royalty

The wedding album sits on my desk, held together with tape and aged binding. But it’s much more than a family heirloom. It’s a time capsule that brings the golden age of Hollywood to life.

It was June 14, 1959. My mother, rising film star Barbara Rush, married my father, Warren Cowanfounder of Rogers & Cowan, still Hollywood’s premier public relations firm. Their hosts? Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, who acted as matchmaker for the couple and opened their Beverly Hills home for the ceremony.

The guest list reads like a marquee: Frank Sinatra exchanging pleasantries with Milton Berle; Dean Martin juggling a cigarette and a plate at the buffet; Ronald Reagan discusses the menu with Mom.

‘BATMAN’ ACTRESS BARBARA RUSH REFLECTS ON HER FRIENDSHIPS WITH ROCK HUDSON, MARILYN MONROE AND OTHER HOLLYWOOD ICONS

There is Jack Lemmon who signs the marriage certificate as a witness. Shirley MacLaine he doubled over laughing. Doris Day, Edward G. Robinson, Louis Jourdan, Rock Hudson, Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy, Jack Benny, Gene Kelly, Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood — all rub shoulders with the newlyweds.

It wasn’t just celebrities. They were friends in the prime of their lives, most with their biggest roles yet to come. Young, beautiful and unstoppable, they filled the pages with an energy that still radiates today. These snapshots freeze a moment when The brightest stars in Hollywood lined up to celebrate love.

The album came to me after mom’s death at Easter at 97 years old. Dad left us in 2008. But as I leaf through these yellowing pages, I am struck by the vibrant lives they contain. Before I was even a possibility, my parents were surrounded by creative and talented friends eager to be a part of their special day.

I share these never-before-seen photos because it is only by remembering those we have lost, loved and admired that they remain with us in our hearts.

In these faded photographs, they are all forever young, still bright, still alive.
