2024 NCAA DI Regional Cross Country Championships: Live Updates

Across the country, the 2024 NCAA DI Regional Cross Country Championships are in full swing. With nine regions in action, hundreds of teams are looking to book their ticket to the 2024 NCAA DI National Championship. NCAA DI South Regional, men’s 10,000m is underway – 9:31 a.m. EST

The men’s race at the South Regional is underway. Over the first 1,200 m, Dismus Lokira (Alabama) is in the lead. Ole Miss currently leads Alabama, but it’s obviously very early.

NCAA DI South Regional, Men’s 10,000m Championship – 9:13 a.m. EST

The NCAA DI South Region Men’s Championship will begin at 9:30 a.m. No. 10 Alabama is the only team ranked in the top 31 in the rankings. FloTrack College XC Rankings presented by HOKA.

Ole Miss and Tennessee will compete for the automatic second place in the NCAA Championship. Auburn will also be there.

NCAA DI South Women’s Regional Results – 6,000m

Alabama was victorious, scoring just 63 points with three women in the top seven. Florida finished second. Only Hilda Olemomoi finished in the top ten, but Tia Wilson, Allison Wilson and Bethan Morley packed up and finished between 12th and 16th place.

NCAA DI South Regional, Hilda Olemomoi eliminates Doris Lemngole! – 8:51 a.m. EST

Amazingly, No. 3 Hilda Olemomoi managed to hold off No. 1 Doris Lemngole on the line! The two are both ranked in the Top 3 in the FloTrack College XC Rankings presented by HOKA and we could see this battle play out again at the National Championship next week.

They crossed the finish line at the same time unofficially, 7:30.6 p.m. The team scores are still coming in, but it looks like Alabama and Florida will get the two automatic bids.

NCAA DI South Regional, breakaway occurred – 8:46 a.m. EST

Doris Lemngole (Alabama) and Hilda Olemomoi (Florida) took the plunge. Brenda Tuwei (Alabama) joined them as we had a breakaway of three women in the lead. Alabama continues to improve its position, with three women in the top five.

Meanwhile, Florida is gaining ground on Florida State. They are only seven points behind at the 4 km mark. Tia Wilson and Allison Wilson each held four spots for Florida in the final mile. They are 13th and 20th respectively.

NCAA DI South Regional, Alabama and Florida State Women Rise – 8:41 a.m. EST

The Alabama and Florida State teams are on the move. They are currently first and second respectively with 74 and 77 points. Midway. Both teams have four women in the top 15. There are around fifteen women in the lead pack, with another field of fifteen close behind. Bieke Schipperen (Florida State) is currently in the lead.

Florida is 21 points behind Florida State and Lipscomb has slipped to fourth.

NCAA DI South Regional, first pack movements – 8:35 a.m. EST

Lipscomb leads the field early in the women’s race. They positioned themselves well in the first kilometer and found themselves closely followed by Florida and Alabama. The women of Tennessee didn’t come out of the gates either. They are back in sixth, at 80 points.

The Tennessee women look to defend their South Region title by fending off the Florida and Alabama women. The race is officially on.

How do teams and runners qualify for the NCAA D1 Cross Country National Championship?

For both men and women, the top two teams from each region – there are nine in total – automatically qualify for the championships, which equates to 18 automatic qualifiers.

The NCAA DI cross country subcommittee will then choose 13 at-large teams to fill out the 31-team field.

Individually, the top four finishers who do not belong to an automatic qualifier or an at-large team automatically qualify for the championships. The four finalists must finish among the top 25 in their region. In total, 36 people automatically qualify and two are chosen at-large, making 38 total. The two at-large selections are the highest-ranked individuals in a region who were not automatically qualified.

When will the 2024 NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships take place; NCAA XC Championship Schedule

The cross country championships will take place at 10:20 a.m. (women’s 6,000m) and 11:10 a.m. (men’s 10,000m) on November 23. The Division II and Division III championships will be held on the same day, although start times have not yet been set. determined.

Where are the 2024 NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships held?

The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships are held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Washington. They will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
