The Creep Tapes’ Most Shocking Scene Doesn’t Involve Murder

The Creep Tapes is one of the best horror shows of the year, but one scene that doesn’t involve death is the series’ most memorable sequence so far.

The original idea of Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, The creeping bands is a spin-off of the Creep films, about a serial killer who films his murders, often dressed as the deadly alter ego “Peachfuzz”.

Duplass plays the killer in question, who seems affable at first, if a little clumsy. But then his interactions become strange, then frightening, before finally turning deadly.

Episodes 1 and 2 of a offered 100 episodes of Creep Tape launched on Shudder last week, while the third installment was released today and features a truly breathtaking ending. This caused quite a stir when the episode premiered at Fantastic party in September, so here’s what to expect, i.e. beware of SPOILERS in front…

The first episode of The Creep Tapes served as something of a soft reboot of the concept, with Duplass’ character luring a filmmaker to his home under the pretense of shooting an audition tape.

The second episode saw the character suffer an existential crisis as he examines his codependent relationship with Peachfuzz. This is what I will call it for the rest of this article.

Episode 3 sees him returning to Mom’s house, which is where the Creep Tapes arrive. Really weird.

Peachfuzz has a body in her trunk, which is a bad way to start a family reunion. Especially since the victim is not yet completely dead, Peach finishes him off while proclaiming her love for Forrest Gump.

When he comes home, Mom films and immediately scares her son, giving us a sense of his strange, predictable upbringing and potential origin story. Just like a stuffed animal called “Wolfie” that he loves.

Another story comes when Fuzz states that he has trouble making friends like his hero Forrest, because every time he tries to make a connection, it doesn’t work. For reasons that the public knows only too well.

The situation then becomes complicated when mom’s new man, Albert, arrives, who now lives in the family home.

Upon Albert’s arrival, Peachfuzz regresses to his teenage self, sulking, throwing tantrums, and being rude when comparing their love lives to 9 1/2 weeks.

Then Albert finds the body in the boot and Peachfuzz puts him to death. It’s not a shocking scene though, since it’s a Creep Tape we’re kind of waiting for the blood to flow.

No, the screwed-up moment in this Freudian nightmare comes at the very end of the episode, when it becomes clear that Mom knows about Peachfuzz’s murderous ways and has no problem with her actions.

Then, to appease her boy, Mom offers him her breast.

Peachfuzz lays on top of her mother and begins sucking on her nipple, in a sequence that had the Fantastic Fest audience laughing and vomiting in equal measure. It’s shocking, sick, twisted stuff, and a scene that will be hard to top in the series’ final three episodes.
