Deepinder Goyal’s unique job offer; Rs 20 Lakh to become chief of staff of Zomato; Details here

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has announced an opening for a unique Chief of Staff position. Interestingly, rather than receiving a salary in the first year, the chosen candidate has to pay Rs 20 lakh as ‘fees’ for taking up this role. This unconventional approach to hiring and professional development is making headlines because of its unique and daring nature.

In an article shared on The role provides unparalleled exposure to some of Zomato’s most important projects, including Blinkit, Hyperpure and Feeding India. It is designed as an intensive learning opportunity similar to an elite MBA program.

Goyal says the role is not focused on flashy perks or high salaries. Instead, it offers the opportunity to collaborate with some of the sharpest minds in the industry and help shape the future of Zomato.

The first year, the selected candidate will not receive a salary. Instead, they have to contribute Rs 20 lakh, which will be donated to Feeding India, Zomato’s non-profit initiative fighting hunger. Zomato will also donate Rs 50 lakh to a charity of the candidate’s choice to further highlight its commitment to philanthropy. From the second year, the position will evolve into a salaried position, with precise salary details being revealed later.

This unconventional arrangement is designed to appeal to individuals driven by a passion for learning rather than financial reward. “Think of this as an accelerated learning program,” the job description says. Rather than seeking validation through a prestigious title or lucrative salary, the emphasis is on personal and professional development.

Goyal made it clear that he was not looking for people interested in building their CVs, but rather genuine learners who were keen to take on the challenges of a demanding role. The goal is to succeed in high-stakes situations, with an emphasis on creating impact rather than seeking comfort.

The job posting sparked heated discussion on social media, with some praising its bold approach to attracting talent committed to growth, while others criticized the high financial barrier to entry and the fact that the position is unpaid for the first year.

Aspiring candidates should submit a 200-word cover letter directly to Goyal without including a resume.
