Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage may have just made the funniest comedy of 2024, and we’re barely talking about it

If it weren’t for Thursday Night Football, I might never have heard of my favorite comedy of 2024. It was just a short commercial promoting a new comedy movie available with a Amazon Prime Video Subscription which revealed Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin played the main role. I put it on after the match and I was shocked Brothers we barely talked about it.

A film by Etan Cohen, the same brain behind Tropical Thunder And Idiocracyis streaming for the world to discover. I love it so much that I feel obligated to spread the word to other comedy fans who have no idea it even exists so we can get everyone involved with this movie featuring two brothers trying to change their lives with long lost jewelry.

This film relies on two actors known for their dramatic roles who crush it in the comedy genre

I don’t know why I was so shocked to see James Brolin and Peter Dinklage doing comedy, especially since I can immediately think of past examples of both. Dinklage plays disaffected author Miles Finch in one of the best Christmas movies Never, Elf. And how can we forget, especially with the arrival of dead Pool & Wolverine for those who have a Disney+ subscriptionin which Brolin played Cable dead Pool 2?

These are just a few examples, and there are other times where the two have shown their funny sides in other films or on Saturday evening live. That said, there’s something hilarious about seeing these two being lewd and over-the-top when you’ve seen Peter Dinklage’s film. Emmy-winning role as Tyrion Lannister. The same goes for Brolin, where I think more of No country for old people Or Dune before one of his funniest roles.

It’s easy to forget all their past dramatic roles while watching Brothersas the two men alternate between awkward and straight man throughout. Dinklage shines as the fatty Jady, politely but firmly rejecting oral sex from a geriatric cellmate before bonding with his brother Moke. Brolin also plays his role as the slightly dark brother trying to hide his criminal past from his new family perfectly.

What makes the performance so great is that at no point in the film is it difficult to believe that these two are brothers. Brothers depends heavily on a brotherly atmosphere between them, and they both play their roles perfectly. Jady is the troublemaker who follows in his mother’s footsteps with elaborate schemes and get-rich-quick schemes, and Moke follows him mainly out of love for his family while trying to make an honest name for himself. The sibling chemistry these two have is what will hook you in this movie, but there’s still plenty to love beyond their performances.

The supporting cast is full of stellar talent

Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage do a lot of heavy lifting in this film, but it must be said that they are also backed by a stellar supporting cast. You have Glenn Close playing their sketchy mother, Cath, who is at the heart of this great jewel heist comedy. His performance falls somewhere between his characters in 101 Dalmatians And Mountain elegyand it is glorious.

Another person who significantly elevates the quality of this film is Brendan Fraserwhich, although being picky about his role after The Whaleis back doing what he does in the comedy world. Look Brothers reminded me of how hilarious Fraser is when playing a character who is screaming and almost maniacal all the time. He’s responsible for some of the funniest moments in this movie, and I don’t think anyone else could play his Officer Farful.

The two above are highlights, but there are many more to highlight. Taylour Paige does a great job playing the supportive housewife, and I’m not sure I’ll ever watch Spider-Man again without seeing Marisa Tomei’s wild character. I can’t spoil anything more than what I’ve said, but suffice to say it’s a big departure from the the mom characters she has played in the past.

Ricky Stanicky was my favorite comedy of 2024, it’s the best

In my book, Prime Video is the winner of the best comedy movies of 2024. I was blown away by how hilarious it was Ricky Stanicky It was when I first saw it that I was pretty sure that nothing that came out the rest of the year would be as funny as seeing John Cena dressed like Britney Spears. I noted Ricky Stanicky a 4.5, which I think is a star above our official review, but trust me when I say this, as much as I love this movie, Brothers surpasses it in almost every way imaginable. This does not mean Ricky Stanicky is a bad movie either. I just think that Brothers is the best comedy we’ll see in 2024. Given that there isn’t much time left in the year, I feel pretty safe assuming that no other upcoming comedy yet to be released will blow me away.

The only thing that disappoints me is that Brothers I didn’t get a theatrical release because damn, I think this movie was good enough to have a solid theatrical run. I hope that as more people see it and word of mouth spreads, this film will garner some sort of streaming cult following. I don’t think there will be a sequel to this movie, but I hope that if enough people watch it, it will start to get more attention as the rest of the year ends.

Check it out and make sure you don’t accidentally confuse it with the Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire movie that is definitely not a comedy. I can’t stress enough how different these two films are, despite their shared titles.
