As governor, I was driven by one guiding principle: helping people keep more of their hard-earned money. For eight years, our administration cut taxes every year, saving Marylanders $4.7 billion. For working families, retirees, first responders and small businesses, every little relief counts when inflation drives up the cost of essentials like housing, food and child care. As Marylanders face hundreds of new taxes and fees – and more on the way – I am committed to taking a taxpayer-friendly approach in Washington.

My opponent, the Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooksmade it clear that she would rubber-stamp the tax-and-spend package. She is campaigning on a pledge to raise Social Security taxes — including on the middle class — which would cost Marylanders billions. These increases not only jeopardize jobs and lower wages; they also lead to even higher prices for consumers.

I will work across partisan lines to make life more affordable. I will fight to deliver real tax relief, starting with expanding the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit to help working families. We have to stop tax hikes fueled by inflation by indexing real estate gains and Social Security taxes and again authorizing a higher standard deduction. And while my opponent supports maintaining the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, I will work to repeal it. My approach is simple: focus on solutions that provide direct relief to Marylanders, not more tax hikes or red tape.

The housing affordability crisis also requires urgent action. Our administration has built more than 28,000 affordable housing units and made record investments in workforce housing. In the Senate, I will continue to advocate for affordable homeownership by eliminating excessive regulations and supporting bipartisan policies to build more housing for working families. It’s time to accelerate the streamlining of regulations and ensure local governments have the resources they need to address this crisis.

Health care costs are another area where we need to move beyond partisanship and take real action. While Washington bickered, we cut Marylanders’ premiums by 30 percent through innovative models. As senator, I will work to lower health care prices by increasing competition, transparency and choice, holding middlemen accountable for price gouging, and fighting to reverse the government’s disastrous cuts to Medicare Advantage. Biden administration.

Education should open the doorsnot close them. As governor, I worked to make education affordable by preventing tuition hikes and expanding scholarships for community college students, as well as establishing a highly competitive school choice program. successful for low-income families. For his part, my opponent opposes school choice and won’t even support public charter schools. In the Senate, I will continue to advocate for tax credits, scholarship accounts, and greater flexibility with 529 plans, giving families the resources they need to afford a quality education.

Finally, we must curb excessive government spending, unaffordable regulations, and mandates that only increase the cost of energy, food, and household items. As governor, we turned a record $5.1 billion deficit into a $5.5 billion surplus by eliminating burdensome regulations and working across the board to enact responsible fiscal policies. In the Senate, I will oppose reckless spending and advocate for a balanced approach to reducing the cost of everyday essentials.

These are not Republican or Democratic ideas, they are simply common sense. I’m not going to worry about which side of the aisle an idea comes from, or wait for orders from party leaders on what I can support. My main test will be: will this bring real economic relief to workers Maryland Families?

Marylanders are currently facing real economic challenges. My opponent’s agenda would only add to their struggles and the gridlock in Washington.

I will work across partisan lines to take action for Maryland, as I always have. Because let’s be realistic: one party cannot fix this mess. Washington has enough chatterboxes. It’s time to stop the partisan nonsense and get the job done.
