Mass. State Lottery Winner. : A man will share a million dollar prize with his mother

A Massachusetts man won a $1 million lottery prize and plans to split the money with his mother.

Timothy Mortell of Chicopee won $1 million in the new “Merry & Bright $2,500,000” scratch-off game. Two million-dollar prizes have been claimed in the game since its release on October 15. There are still four $1 million prizes and three $2.5 million grand prizes left to claim as of October 28.

Mortell chose the cash option for his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He told the lottery he wanted to invest his winnings and share them with his mother.

The Chicopee man purchased his winning ticket at a store called Yazzy’s Market, located at 810 Meadow St. in his hometown. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The “$2,500,000 Merry & Bright” scratch-off ticket is one of six holiday-themed games that all launched on October 15. Another $1 million prize has also been claimed from the “$1,000,000 Merry & Bright” game since its release, and a $50,000 first prize from the “Naughty or Nice Cashword” game.

Non-winning vacation tickets can be entered into Second Chance drawings to win prizes between $100 and $10,000.
