Brothers earn Rs 76 lakh in just one year of mushroom farming

Siddhant and Sarthak Mehrotratwo brothers of Ramnagarhave built a very successful business mushroom cultivation business in just one year. Their remarkable enterprise, Vardhman Agromade a net profit of Rs. 76 lakh in its first year, demonstrating that with the right idea, planning and hard work, even a small business can grow incredibly.
Find an opportunity
As mentioned in krishijagran dot com’, Siddhant and Sarthak were not from farming families – they originally came from an electronics background. But when they wanted to make better use of the family land, they thought of new and unique business ideas. They discovered that hotels and restaurants near Corbett National Park often had difficulty finding fresh mushrooms.
Realizing that there were no large mushroom farms in the area, they decided to create their own. They first researched the industry, spoke to experts, and learned the best methods for growing mushrooms.

Get help and support
The brothers realized they needed help from experts to make their business successful. So they contacted the National Horticultural Council (NHB). The NHB helped them with agricultural planning and offered them financial support in the form of grants.
They also contacted and established partnerships with agricultural institutions like DMRC Solan and GBPUA&T Pantnagar, where they learned the best ways to cultivate mushrooms. With this knowledge, they built a modern farm with air conditioning systems to create the ideal conditions for their mushrooms.

A remarkable start
According to “krishijagran.com”, by early 2023, Vardhman Agro was fully operational. The brothers had planned to produce 100 tonnes (MT) of mushrooms in their first year, but exceeded their goal, reaching 190 MT. At Rs. 115 per kilogram, they earned Rs. 2.18 crore in revenue.
After paying costs such as materials, labor and loan repayment, they made a net profit of Rs. 76 lakh in the first year. This success proved that growing mushrooms could be a very profitable business.
Focus on the environment
Their farm is ecological because it uses agricultural waste which would otherwise be wasted or pollute the environment. By turning this waste into mushrooms, they created a successful business and helped the planet. Their success encouraged others local farmers also try growing mushrooms. Many have contacted NHB for assistance in starting their own farms.

They also support other farmers by sharing their knowledge and helping them start their own mushroom farm. Their project is changing the way people perceive agriculture. More and more people now see it as a modern and profitable business, and the brothers are proud to be part of this change.
Future projects
After a great first year, the Mehrotra brothers have big plans. They want to expand their business by producing more mushrooms and adding new varieties. They also aim to reach more customers and help other farmers start their own mushroom farms. In the long term, their goal is to build a network of mushroom farms that can support each other and help the local community grow.
