Elections are positive, more climate coverage: letters from the PD

Readers of the Democratic press comment on Trump’s victory, and much more.

The elections are positive

EDITOR: The advantage of Donald Trump’s victory is that thugs will not launch assault on the Capitol, defecating in the building, injuring more than 140 law enforcement officers and causing $1.5 million in property damage. Additionally, Trump said he would pardon those convicted due to their involvement in the insurrection, eliminating the cost to taxpayers of further incarceration. Finally, instead of complaining about a “stolen election,” Kamala Harris had the decency to call to congratulate him, and she will certify the election results as our Constitution requires, thereby facilitating the peaceful transfer of power which is the cornerstone of our country. .

More climate coverage

EDITOR: Why don’t we see more of the disastrous climate crisis in our media? I keep hearing that this is the new normal. This is the best you can get. The threat of storms such as Helen and Milton had been predicted by scientists years ago. The UK media is doing much more to publish and report on the crisis we face. Every night on the news the weather forecast gets worse, but only small segments of the problem are published in our newspapers or discussed on the news channels. If we continue to release toxic fumes from fossil fuels into the atmosphere, the situation will gradually get worse. Be realistic and cover more of the cause of these catastrophic weather disasters, please.

Awaiting trial

EDITOR: On May 16, 2025, I will stand trial and face more than five years in prison for saving Poppy, Ivy, Aster and Azalea from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. For taking them to get treatment, I was arrested for a crime. I have worn a GPS ankle monitor for over 300 days while awaiting trial.

Most criminal defense strategies attempt to get the jury to question whether the defendant actually did what they are accused of. I will proudly testify and say I did it. I walked into the slaughterhouse, rescued four chickens from a carrier, and left. I treated their wounds and shared their stories publicly.

I will tell the jury exactly what happened. It will be up to them to decide if they think what I did was a crime. I am at peace with whatever may happen because I know that Poppy, Ivy, Aster, and Azalea are safe, happy, and free. I sincerely hope that one day soon, Perdue will be tried for what I consider to be egregious crimes against animals.

Changed forever

EDITOR: Here we are, just days after an election that will forever change the face of democracy in America. Twice in this century, the popular vote has been defeated by the constitutional oddity of the Electoral College. Today the popular vote was held and a convicted felon, serial marital cheater, serial bankrupt and sexual predator were elected by a razor-thin margin of 5 million, or 3.6% of the votes cast. . If there was ever an argument for a college education, look at this number: 63 percent of those without college voted for the winning candidate. The American experiment praised by George Washington seems to have failed. We are divided beyond anything we could have imagined. Our quest for a “more perfect union” seems to have been a dream that will never come true.

Orwellian result

EDITOR: George Orwell’s masterpiece “1984” appears to have come to life in 2024. The MAGA propaganda and disinformation machine has mastered the art of Newspeak and doublethink. Election results tell us that the majority of voters fell prey to the constant repetition of conspiracy theories and false claims about stolen elections, voting irregularities, immigrant crime rates, a failing economy, late-term abortions, the deep state and enemies within. The incessant lies, truth-telling, stigmatization, and name-calling produced the desired effect: a manipulated reality where a desperate nation could only be saved by voting for the supremely stable genius of Donald Trump. May God help us all.
