Mount Carmel Academy, an independent charter school in partnership with Houston Independent School Districtwill close its doors permanently at the end of the year due to financial difficulties.

The school is governed by an independent board of directors as part of its partnership with HISD.

“The Mount Carmel Academy Administration and Board of Trustees have announced that their school will be closed at the end of this calendar year for financial reasons,” said the HISD statement sent to KPRC 2. “Given that Mount Carmel Academy is an external charter partner for Houston ISD with an independent Board of Trustees, all inquiries regarding the announced closure should be directed to the Mount Carmel Academy Board of Trustees and administration.

Houston ISD works closely with Mount Carmel Academy families to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff. HISD provides information about nearby district schools and helps families with the transfer process.

HISD’s Human Resources department also supports Mount Carmel staff by sharing employment opportunities within the district.

“We are delighted to welcome Mount Carmel Academy students and staff to our schools should they choose to join us,” Houston ISD said in a statement.
