Google Maps Gets Gemini Search, Review Summaries, and Q&As

With over 2 billion monthly usersGoogle Maps adds Gemini to power a trio of experiences that seem very useful on Android and iOS.

Ask Maps lets you enter more conversational queries into the existing search box. For example, “things to do with friends in the evening” will show “Curated with Gemini” suggestions, which feature the sparkle, for live music and speakeasies.

Each one gets a carousel of locations that you can navigate through. Each card has a rating and a relevant review, while each carousel has a thumbs up/down to adjust the system.

Once you open a listing, Gemini will offer a review summary below the usual rating breakdown, while the rest of this section remains unchanged.

Finally, you can “Ask Maps about this page.” This new inline search bar in the listing allows you to ask questions, such as: Is it a quiet atmosphere? and what is the dress code? These generated answers, which may include images, are accompanied by excerpts from the exam itself and other relevant web links. Both of these features will also be available in Google Search in the coming months.

Gemini in Google Maps for Android and iOS is rolling out in the US starting this week.

Continuing on the AI front is how Immersive view for locations extends to 150 cities around the world, including Brussels, Frankfurt and Kyoto. It also now allows you to explore college campuses.

In the meantime, Immersive view for routes becomes more detailed by highlighting complex turns and where to park. These two updates are rolling out starting this week.
