REFORM, Alabama (WBRC) – A west Alabama town received some good news that should lead to better water services in the future.

Reform has received a grant which will enable it to further improve its water supply system.

The federal government is giving the city more than $1 million to improve its water system.

Reform Mayor Melody Davis says this allows the city to take a big step forward in repairing its water system.

She says the Reform Party will receive just over $1.5 million from the Delta Regional Authority through the Federal Government.

The grant specifies that the money will be spent to replace water pipes.

Most of the oldest and worst-conditioned pipes are in downtown Reform.

Davis believes using the grant to replace these old water lines, along with work underway to build a new well, water tank and water treatment plant for the system, brings the Reform party for a more reliable water system.

“We have always had broken lines. We always had empty tanks. We have always had a broken system. So once the project is completed and completed, we will have everything new. I call it a Cadillac system,” Mayor Davis told WBRC.

Davis says these old water pipes date back to the 1940s.

The reform experiences numerous water outages during severe frosts.

Davis anticipates it will take three years to complete all the work needed to upgrade Reform’s water system.
