Google Gemini is good, but this update could turn it into real science fiction

Ever since I first saw the “Welcome Home, Sir” scene in Iron Man 2I wanted a smart setup with a Jarvis-like wizard. I was hoping Alexa would provide this kind of functionality, but so far the assistant is just too limited. This could change with the launch of Gemini 2.0 and Google’s Project Jarvis.

In a sense, this new project East Jarvis. The system works by taking photos of your screen and interpreting the information on them, including text, images and even sound. It can also automatically fill out forms or press buttons for you. This project was first mentioned during Google I/O 2024, and according to 9to5Googleis designed to automate web tasks. “Jarvis” is an AI agent that is narrower in scope than a language learning model like ChatGPT – an AI that demonstrates human-like powers of reasoning, planning and memory.

Imagine if you could ask Jarvis to search for the cheapest flight for an upcoming trip or keep an eye on online listings for a vintage game console you’d like to purchase. This project has the potential to simplify daily tasks and simplify many online tasks.

However, the system is still in the early stages of development. The prevailing theory is that Jarvis will be powered by Gemini 2.0 and could be released as early as December this year for testing. Jarvis would serve as an example of what Gemini is capable ofrather than full functionality. With Jarvis rumored to be available for early testers, a public launch doesn’t seem likely anytime soon.

This is further reinforced by the fact that Jarvis doesn’t always process information quickly, meaning it will need the cloud for some time to come before it can run at normal speeds on the device. With a new or improved AI model every time we turn around, it’s easy to see why Google is stepping up its game. The company needs to be able to complement OpenAI and GPT-5.
