Steve Kornacki explains why 80% of Georgia votes will be revealed early

The country is on edge Election Day in an incredibly close presidential race, and although most experts warn that the race is unlikely to be called Tuesday night and could expand in the coming days, there is one big field state battle that could reveal the results sooner. Very early.

Polls close in Georgia at 7 p.m. ET, but unlike previous years when vote totals took hours to tally, things will be extremely different in 2024. MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki explained Tuesday morning on ” Morning Joe.”

“It’s going to be different than what we’ve experienced in the past. The law has changed in Georgia and if all goes as planned, we will have a ton of votes in Georgia very quickly at 7 p.m. I’m talking about 80% of all votes in the first hour. 7-8 p.m. This is a new state law. All early voting, all mail-in voting must be reported within the first hour and we have seen 4 million people in Georgia vote early so far.”

The 4 million early votes marked a registration number early voting for the state of Georgia. On the other hand, 2.7 million early votes were recorded in 2020.

Kornacki also explained what experts will be looking for when these initial Georgia results become available — particularly if the Atlanta metro area continues to grow.

“The blue counties in metro Atlanta are big, they’re growing very fast, they’re diversifying and becoming more and more democratic. More than 40 percent of the state’s votes come from these counties. Biden got almost 70% four years ago. The question, one of the revelations for me tonight, will be: is the Blue Blob getting bigger? »
