ISLAMABAD: All educational institutions will remain closed in the federal capital and Rawalpindi tomorrow (Monday) amid plans for protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), district administrations said on Sunday.

The decision was taken taking into account the current situation, said a statement issued by the capital’s administration.

He added that the notification will be applicable to all educational institutions in the federal capital.

The development came as the former ruling party plans to hold a ‘do or die’ protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk against ‘illegal’ incarceration of PTI founder Imran Khan, other leaders of the party and workers, “stolen mandate” on February 8. general elections and 26th constitutional amendment.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the authorities concerned not to allow the party to hold protests in the federal capital in violation of the new Peaceful Assembly Act.

The protests coincide with the Belarusian president’s upcoming visit, scheduled for November 25-27, reinforcing the government’s concerns about maintaining public order.

Meanwhile, internet services saw disruptions in the federal capital as well as Karachi, Peshawar and other cities, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi saying, “Mobile services are functioning while internet is farm “.

The security measures include deployment of hundreds of police, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel, sealing of entry and exit points of Islamabad and enforcement of Section 144.

Apart from the Islamabad administration, the Punjab government also imposed Section 144 across the province for three days from November 23 to 25 and put over 10,700 police personnel on standby.

The party founded by Imran Khan has marched to the federal capital several times in recent months, which has seen its workers clash with law enforcement agencies (LEA).
