Stellantis recalls Jeep and Dodge SUVs due to brake safety features

Stellantis is recalling approximately 207,000 Jeep and Dodge SUVs in the United States to address a computer issue that could disable anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control safety features.

The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs.

Stellantis said in government recall documents published Wednesday that SUVs could have a brake control computer that falsely reads brake pressure. The computer can turn off safety features, turn on brake lights and allow the driver to leave park without putting their foot on the brake pedal. This can cause involuntary movements.

The documents indicate the company is still developing a repair. Owners will be informed by mail starting Thursday. Persons with questions can call Stellantis customer service at (800) 853-1403.

The same models were recalled in 2022 for a similar issue that did not resolve issues with brake lights or anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in documents that vehicles repaired in the 2022 recall will need to be repaired again.

Stellantis documents indicate the company has received 533 warranty claims related to the issue as of Oct. 14, but it is not aware of any accidents or injuries.
