Buyer of Murdaugh hunting estate says it will be ‘completely’ different

Defamed South Carolina Attorney Alex Murdaugh Lowland Hunting Area in Islandton was sold to an ambitious new buyer.

Colleton County land records show Alexander Blair paid $1.16 million in May for 48 acres of land. the so-called Moselle estate.

“Moselle will have a completely different house in a few months,” Blair posted on Facebook, along with photos of the renovations underway at the four-bed, four-and-a-half-bath home.

Blair posted updates on construction work underway in the home’s main living area, including a new fireplace and renovated kitchen.

Blair’s purchase comes about a year and a half after two local businessmen purchased the Murdaughs’ original 1,700-acre estate — including the kennels where Paul and Maggie Murdaugh were murdered in July 2021 — for nearly 4 million dollars at an auction, as Realtor.com was first reported.

James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley then divided the land and listed the Murdaughs’ former hunting home at $1.95 million.

The remaining land is still owned by the two businessmen, according to Realtor.com

“I’m a next-door neighbor, with our house about a mile from this house,” Godley told the real estate site. “We are looking for a new neighbor to take advantage of this magnificent house and land.”

In March 2023, Murdaugh was sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of his wife and youngest son near the kennels on their hunting estate. He used a shotgun and a rifle to shoot both victims several times.

The former South Carolina legal scion appealed the decision over allegations that former Colleton County Court Clerk Becky Hill, who presided over the infamous double murder trial, tampered with the jury.

Murdaugh later pleads guilty dozens of financial crimes for defrauding the clients of his law firm for a total estimated amount of approximately $10 million. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for these crimes.
