Democrat breaks down in tears live on MSNBC after Kamala Harris’ speech

The former Democratic senator has transformed himself MSNBC political analyst Claire McCaskill wiped away tears twice while reacting live on air Kamala Harris‘concession speech on Wednesday.

“I’m so proud,” McCaskill said, her voice breaking, when host Nicolle Wallace asked her what she was thinking during Deadline: White House.

Pulling herself together, she continued: “I’m so proud of her. I don’t think people realize how hard it was to get to where she was. As a woman, getting elected as DA, It’s not easy guys.”

McCaskill, who represented Missouri from 2007 to 2019, noted his admiration for Harris’ political career and noted that the vice president found himself in the “most difficult situation in the world” after becoming a Democratic candidate after the presidency. Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July.

“People don’t trust women to make decisions about life, death and crime and to somehow supervise the police,” McCaskill said. “His fight through the thickets of California politics to become attorney general was very difficult. I mean, it’s a really difficult thing.”

“For her to be selected as vice president after what she would tell you was a very disappointing presidential race, where I think she kind of lost her footing…” McCaskill then removed her glasses to wipe away tears as the producers cut to a close-up.

“…and she listened to too much to the consultants, frankly. It wasn’t…it didn’t really represent who she was.

“And then becoming vice president and finding herself in the most difficult situation in the world where she had to be completely loyal to Joe Biden and respectful of the fact that he had chosen her, but nonetheless maneuverable in this situation. I mean, such political skill is simply inspiring. People who don’t understand what she had to do to get to this moment.”

McCaskill’s voice began to shake and her eyes began to water as she concluded, “I’m just really proud of her,” taking off her glasses again to wipe her eyes.

Harris delivered it concession speech ” to his discouraged supporters on the campus of Howard University, his alma mater, late Wednesday afternoon, while promising to continue fighting a “dark time” for some Americans.

The Associated Press has called elections in 48 states as of this writing, giving Trump 295 Electoral College votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the White House. Nevada and Arizona were not called, but Trump is ahead in both cases. Trump is also on track to win the popular vote.

Harris served as the district attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011, attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and served a four-year term as a U.S. senator from California before winning the 2020 election as vice president of Joe Biden.
