The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) high command has ordered that two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of three men in eastern Kingston earlier this week be detained while the Independent Commission of Inquiry (INDECOM) continues its investigation on the incident.

The detention was ordered “based on information received,” according to a JCF statement Thursday morning.

The incident, which occurred on the morning of November 10, 2024, involved two members of the Kingston East division.

Officers reported that while on patrol they encountered a group of men along Windward Road and during the encounter gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the deaths of three men. One of the police officers was injured, but his life is not in danger and two illegal firearms were reportedly recovered at the scene.

It was also initially reported that the now deceased men were suspected of being involved in a theft ring.

According to the press release, “the High Command reiterates its full support to members who act in accordance with the law in the exercise of their functions and is committed to the principle of accountability.

“The High Command wishes to assure the public of our commitment to support the thorough and impartial investigations carried out by INDECOM, ensuring that the ends of justice are served,” the statement said, adding “We remain steadfast in our pursuit professionalism, transparency and will continue to cooperate fully with the relevant supervisory bodies on this and all other similar matters.
