Canton firefighter injured in triplex fire

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) – Canton firefighters responded to a triplex fire early Monday morning.

According to a release from Canton Fire, at approximately 1:57 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire involving multiple dwellings at the building located at 923 6th St. NW.

Crews arrived to find heavy gunfire coming from the first and second floors of the building, according to the Canton Fire Department.

Four adults had also evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.

The building could not be reoccupied due to a major fire and water damage. The Red Cross was therefore called to help the occupants.

A vehicle next to the building was also destroyed by the fire, according to the Canton Fire Department.

Canton Fire estimated the cost of damages at approximately $70,000.

No civilian injuries were reported by the Canton Fire Department, however, one firefighter suffered minor burns and remained on duty.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
