3-year-old safe at parents’ home after leaving home and walking to east Colorado Springs store overnight

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Police say a toddler was reunited with his parents after leaving his home overnight and walking to a nearby store.

Officers were called to a convenience store near Marksheffel and Dublin shortly before 2am on Sunday after a little boy, barefoot and in pajamas, showed up alone. The 3-year-old told police he left his house because his parents weren’t there and he was scared.

Officers checked the area for homes with open doors, but were unable to locate the child’s home. The little boy was placed at DHS while police continued to search for his mother and father.

A sergeant told 11 news agents the parents were found later Sunday morning. According to the sergeant, the parents were sleeping when their son left the house and did not realize he was gone until police woke them up. The sergeant would not provide further details about the incident for confidentiality reasons, but confirmed the parents were not facing charges.
