Florida Cashapp users who suffered unauthorized access to their account have less than a week to submit a claim for compensation following a multi-million dollar settlement

Cash App is required to pay $15 million after a class-action lawsuit filed in February of this year claimed the company “failed to implement appropriate controls to prevent unauthorized access and use of Cash App and Cash App Investing accounts” and “mismanaged and failed to do so.” adequately resolve customer complaints regarding unauthorized or fraudulent transactions.

In December 2021, payment app Cash App suffered a data breach that exposed the personal information of more than 8 million Cash App Investing customers.

In addition to the required $15 million payment, the company also agreed to improve its data security as a result of the settlement, but Cash App denies any liability or wrongdoing regarding the claims made in the lawsuit.

Here’s how to request a Cash App payment.

What is the deadline to submit a Cash App settlement claim?

You must submit a completed claim form by Monday, November 18.

Am I eligible for Cash App payment?

If you had a Cash App account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 and have not already been reimbursed by Block Inc., Cash App Investing or a third party, you are eligible for a portion of the Cash App settlement.

Here are the types of claims you can file with Cash App, according to Cash App and USA TODAY:

  • Direct losses: This claim shows that the user’s Cash App account was involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a refund, after submitting the required documents to the company, they could receive up to $2,500.
  • Lost time: Users can submit a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent regarding the data breach.
  • Transaction losses: If a user has lost money and has not been refunded, they will be able to submit a transaction loss claim.

How do I file a claim against Cash App?

If you file a claim, you can only file one claim. But if you have multiple Cash App accounts to submit a claim for, you can list all of your CashTags and claim information on one claim form, Cash App told USA TODAY.

Affected Cash App users can file their complaint by visiting cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.

How much money could I receive in Cash App settlement?

You could claim up to $2,500 per person for personal losses and $25 per hour for reimbursement for lost time up to 3 hours if you are eligible to participate in the proposed settlement.

What happens if I don’t submit a claim? How to object to the regulations, unsubscribe

If users decide not to submit a claim, they will not receive payment under this settlement and will waive the right to sue, continue to sue, or participate in another lawsuit against the defendants related to the legal claims resolved by this regulation.

Those who wish to object to the lawsuit or opt out also have less than a week to do so. If you decide to opt out, you can object by writing to the court to explain why you do not like the settlement.

“You can also ask the court for permission to speak about your objection at the final approval hearing. If you object, you can also file a claim for compensation,” the website adds.

If you choose to object, this will allow you to sue, continue to sue, or participate in another lawsuit against Defendants related to the legal claims resolved by this settlement. The website states that those who choose this option can elect their legal advisor at their own expense.
