Agentic AI innovation at the center of the AWS conference

Advances in generative and agentic AI innovation are transforming businesses. At the same time, technological advances in chips and a growing emphasis on digital sovereignty are reshaping cloud computing to deliver solutions.

That’s where Amazon Web Services Inc.’s annual re:Invent conference promises to bring new insights. It represents a barometer for the industryaccording to CUBE Research executive analyst John Furrier.

“There are new stacks emerging, the AI generation stacks, and what’s happening is it’s just another level of innovation,” Furrier said in a recent episode of the CUBE podcast. “It feels like the 90s in some ways – like the days of networking and computing, when chips were coming out of Intel and networking equipment was faster. Then apps get smarter. The same thing is happening here.

Amazon Web Services Inc. and the industry’s agentic AI innovation will be at the center of concerns theCUBE Cloud AWS re:Invent Coverage Eventlive broadcast from December 3 to 6. Our coverage will also look specifically at IT hardware and associated services. The latest news and announcements around innovation in agentic AI will be explored by Furrier, Dave Vellantechief analyst at theCUBE Research, and a full team of analysts at theCUBE Research, but a plethora of industry experts. Join us from December 3 for our exclusivity “Cloud AWS re:Invent Coverage” eventscrew on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming studio. (*Disclosure below.)

Cloud growth marks Amazon’s final year

For Amazon.com Inc.it was a year marked by the growth of the cloud. End of Octoberstrong growth in the company’s cloud and advertising businesses led to another impressive profits and revenues. The company reported an operating profit of $17.4 billion, up from $11.2 billion in the corresponding quarter a year earlier. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also said the company artificial intelligence services generated billions of dollars in annualized revenue.

“I think we have more demand than we could satisfy if we had even more capacity today,” Jassy said. said in October. “I think almost everyone today has less capacity than demand, and it’s primarily chips that are the area where companies could use more supply.”

The company also plans to accelerate its infrastructure spending in the next financial year. It plans to spend $75 billion in fiscal 2024 and even more in fiscal 2025, according to Jassy.

“The increases are actually due to generative AI,” he said. “This is a truly exceptionally important, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and shareholders will feel good about this long term as we pursue it aggressively.”

Notable developments around innovation in generative and agentic AI

Beyond profits, Amazon had another year of notable developments, including September’s surprising news.ber that Oracle Corp. had buried the hatchet with AWS. The two companies announced that they would form a “strategic partnership” to bring Oracle’s autonomous database offering to AWS.

At the time of the announcement, Larry Ellison, Oracle’s founder and chief technology officer, said Oracle was seeing “tremendous demand” from customers wanting to use multiple clouds. Ellison had already done repeated excavations at AWS during his keynotes over the years.

“To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services to the latest Oracle database technology, including Oracle Autonomous Database.” , Ellison said. said in September.

The companies said the services are expected to launch into general availability before the end of the year. This is a notable development and a key moment in the evolution of multicloud strategies, according to Vellante.

“They finally buried the hatchet. Oracle is in the process of inserting and integrating Oracle (Cloud) Infrastructure, OCI, into Azure, into Google, into AWS,” Vellante said in a statement. recent edition of the CUBE podcast.

Speaking at CUBE in AugustMatt Garman, CEO of AWS, highlighted the critical importance of inference as the true “killer application” of generative AI. Inference is not just a function, but an integral building block to integrate into every application.

“All the money and effort people put into building these big training models is meaningless if there isn’t a huge amount of inference on the backend to build cool things,” Garman said.

Amazon has also been busy over the past year with various project announcements, including the launch of Améliean AI-powered generative assistant for third-party sellers, and AWS retailer Mithraan internal system it uses to detect malicious website domains. In July, AWS also introduced App Studiowhich aims to accelerate the development of applications with AI.

“Using natural language, any user with some technical experience can simply describe the app they want to build, and App Studio takes care of the development process, providing an app that employees can start using immediately,” said said Dilip Kumar, Vice President of Applications. at AWS, in July.
