Plans to turn Forest of Dean village pub into housing rejected

Ms Dale said one resident told her that visiting the pub over the past 20 years made them feel part of the village, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reports.

“Nag’s is more than a pub,” she said.

Resident David Sanderson told the council committee: “This is a vibrant community pub.

“Two bowling teams, a crib, a pool table, the meeting place for the cricket club and footballers, the Mummers practice there and on Wednesdays there was an OAP club.

“Thousands of dollars raised for charity, I could go on. The pub was, and still can be, the real asset of community value.

“I request in my brief that the council designate it as such. Please do it.

The developers appealed the council’s decision.

A viability report commissioned by Lydney Developments Ltd claims the pub is unviable due to limited roofing and falling sales.

They also claim the building is in poor condition overall, with a kitchen that is not commercially sized and of poor quality.
